Recommend a reboot when enabling VLANs on Sidewinder G2.
When enabling VLANs (802.1Q) you need to start with a clean interface
without an IP assigned. Then you create sub-interfaces based on the
VLAN Tag.
Yes, you need to adjust the rules since you are creating new interfaces
with new Burbs.
No, the only reset should be from a recommended reload.
Recommend you keep your existing interfaces active and running (or move
them if you really want to keep em1 as the inside interface), then
enable your VLAN interface and migrate from there.
We use VLANs on some DMZ interfaces of similar security levels, running
from a cisco router using VRFs, a good way of separating external
clients.
Sorry, too busy for twitter...

Subject: [Sidewinder] VLAN Support
I have a 6.x Sidewinder G2 on which I wish to enable VLAN support for
the internal adapter/burb. The trouble is, documentaiton seems to be
sorely lacking.
For instance:
Is a reboot necessary after turning on VLAN support?
Do existing rules need to be adjusted afterward?
Will the adapter reset (will there be a service outage)?
How does one fall back in the case of failure?
You get the idea. Has anyone VLAN-enabled their interface on an
existing Sidewinder G2, and, if so, what advice can you give and gotchas
can you warn against?
Thank you.
Also, I'm surprised at my inability to locate any Sidewinder folks on
Twitter.
